"Keep The Meter Running"

Some things last forever. Some are more transient. But how do permanence and impermanence relate? It’s this connection between what remains and what doesn’t that UK artist Sickboy explores in his latest Tokyo solo show at Oil Gallery, Shibuya. In art, life, and beyond.

The relationship between permanence and impermanence is felt in many ways throughout the show.

This new edition was created specifically for the show using graphite and metallic inks and nods to the artists love of his favourite city's wonderfully decorated taxi cabs - "Keep the Meter Running!"

Pencil or paint. Black or white. Entrenched or erasable. Stripped back or solid. Loose or linear. Ephemeral or everlasting. All these contrasts bring the show to life. But ultimately, Sickboy has created a meditation on time. The things that anchor us in our existence. The things that set us free from it. And why both matter.
